The Cuban tourist industry is organized around the so called enclave resorts. The aim is to limit the contact of foreigners to the local population as much as possible. The government is targeting tourists from Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Mexico. The most famous such resorts are Varadero, Cayo Coco, Holgiun and Havana.

Since 2008 with the ascension of Raul Castro as state leader the segregation in hotels and other facilities seems to have ended. Now, Cubans are allowed access to all resorts and hotels. Still, this new trend is very limited because only very few Cubans can afford to visit these palces.
